The Quartet

The HarbourLights quartet sings gospel songs. They built the group as a Music Ministry extension of First Baptist Church of Alexandria (FBCA) in Virginia, where all are members. This quartet specializes in "classic" southern gospel music with a smooth harmony that is reminiscent of those famous quartets of the 50's and 60's.

"Singing Gospel music is what we really like to do", says Jim Downing, the quartet's coordinator and Baritone. "We really find it thrilling when we see folks respond as they do to our singing. Gospel music is just fun."

Our prayer ... for God to open doors of opportunity to minister.

The Latest HarbourLights News

Newest HarbourLights CD Just Released

HarbourLights is pleased to announce the release of their fourth CD project. This new CD features 10 new songs and the re-release of The Lighthouse.  The quartet is excited about this new project.  “Of course, the latest project is always your best.”, said Lead singer Chris Armhein.  But, HarbourLights work hard to learn a bunch of new songs for this project like “Movin’ Out of Here”, “When I Get Carried Away”, “New Day Dawning”, Antioch Church Choir”, “I Can, I Have, I Will”, and “Oh, I Want To See Him”.  The new HarbourLights CD can be ordered online below.

HarbourLights Sings at Grace Ole Opry

On November 7, 2009, HarbourLights was featured on the Saturday night program of the Grace Ole Opry, a highlight of the year. Each year the Grace Brethren Church in Waldorf, MD sponsors the Grace Ole Orpy, a fun-filled Bluegrass and Gospel program styled after the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. A faux radio program makes up this unique program with a radio announcer presenting “radio ads” about Martha White flour, Goo Goo Bars, and Standback Headache Powers. Even Minnie Pearl gets in the act by announcing each group to sing. HarbourLights sang four songs on the program, "Movin Out of Here", "I Saw the Light", "Touring That City" and "Just a Little Talk With Jesus". You can view a couple of these by hitting the links below.

Memorial Gift - New Wireless Microphone System

Because of the memorial gift of an FBCA donor, HarbourLights is using a new wireless microphone system.  This generous gift has been made in memory of long-time FBCA member, Nellie Beck.  Nellie liked the HarbourLights singing and the quartet sang for her 93rd birthday a couple of years ago. Therefore, the new wireless microphone system is dedicated to her.

The new microphone system along with the quartet’s new Bose sound system will assist the quartet to extend their ministry beyond the walls of First Baptist Church Alexandria.  The wireless mics allow total freedom and flexibility to Linda, Mark, Chris & Jim as they sing the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ.  Here’s what the complete system looks like:

HarbourLights praises God for providing this equipment to use in His service.  With it, the group plans to share the glorious gospel with many organizations and audiences in the future.
